Facts of Singapore
This majestic island-city state maybe just a red dot on the map but rest assured that its tiny size does not mean there is lack of places of interest or exciting cultural and religious connotations for the well-informed visitor to experience.
Founded in ancient times by a Majapahit Prince in the 1400s, when he saw an animal, which resembles a lion and thus named it Singapura, which means the Lion City in the Malay language, modern Singapore was officially founded by Sir Stamford Raffles in 1819. He was then affiliated to the British East India Company and he made Singapore into a very vibrant and thriving trading port. And its strategic location, in Southeast Asia, was a great asset too.
Since its independence in 1965, on the 9 th of August, Singapore has become one of the busiest business hubs in the whole of Asia and the world. Many multi-national companies have set-up their businesses here as Singapore has a great reputation abroad, of being clean, efficient, safe and most of all being able to produce the necessary results, at all levels, with excellent integrity and expertise.
Blessed with an equatorial climate, it is almost sunny throughout the year although when the monsoons do come, no natural havocs would occur as the excellent drainage system all over the island sees to that. With a population of only about 4.2 million and a land size of approximately 680 sq km, Singapore can stand tall and proud as it boasts of having the busiest port, the best airport, the greatest airline and even the biggest fountain and man-made waterfall in the whole wide world.
With good and great governance, Singapore has the reputation of not only being a safe place but is also a shopping and food paradise. With its population comprising of mainly Chinese, Malays, Indians, Eurasians and Others, you will be able to sample food from all these ethnic groups, at food courts, hotels and restaurants. If shopping is what that enthralls you, then the shopping belt at Orchard Road is a must visit arena. With goods ranging from local productions to internationally world-renowned brands, you will be spoilt for choice.
Singapore welcomes many esteemed visitors to its sunny shores yearly and indeed, many have return for a second time or more because it’s truly a tourist’s heavenly haven.
